Cell Therapy Facility

The QUB Cellular Therapy Facility is based in the Plenum building on the grounds of the Royal Victoria Hospital and is maintained in conjunction with the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

The facility is the first of its kind in Northern Ireland and puts QUB and the BHSCT at the forefront of innovative medicine. It is jointly funded by Medical Research Council, Health and Social Care Research and Development Division and QUB.

A cell therapy medicinal product means a biological medicinal product which has the following characteristics:

a) contains or consists of cells or tissues that have been subject to substantial manipulation so that biological characteristics, physiological functions or structural properties relevant for the intended clinical use have been altered

b) Is presented as having properties with a view to treating, preventing or diagnosing a disease through the pharmacological, immunological or metabolic action of its cells or tissues.
