East Groningen

The rural Netherlands has started to depopulate even though it possesses strong urban and rural linkages via daily urban systems. Population in east Groningen declined by 5% between 2006 and 2017, and is expected to continue to do so (by 16% up to 2040). The region is designated as a priority region in the Dutch national policy on how to deal with the consequences of depopulation.
