South Tyrone

Rural Northern Ireland is characterised by strong connections to land and family yet has a long history of out-migration and emigration. South Tyrone has recorded a population growth (7% 2001-2011) but this disguises urban and rural variations. Growth is associated with large and medium-sized settlements (natural increase), while the rural records depopulation and population ageing (young adults move from the countryside into towns).
