Technicians Make it Happen - Event
On Tuesday 19 June over 100 technical staff came together in the North Lecture Theatre, MBC, for the first MHLS Faculty Technician Event.
This builds on the University signing up to The Technician Commitment. A number of colleagues from EPS and AHSS also joined Event.
The Event focussed on what the Commitment was about and in particular the four pillars of Visibility, Recognition, Career development and Sustainability. Guest speakers came from The Science Council, HEaTED , Institute of Science and Technology and the Technical Manager of the Institute of Neuroscience, Newcastle University, who gave an overview of their journey in implementing the Commitment. There was also information shared on the benefits of professional membership and registration through the IST and the Science Council.
The event closed with lunch and an opportunity to network and visit the stands of several suppliers who had supported the event. Professor Alan Stitt who is the Faculty lead for the Technician Commitment said “ I was delighted with the level of participation and engagement in this first event and look forward to developing this further with the Faculty Technicians Working Group. I anticipate we will have a workshop in the early autumn to explore professional registration further.”
