SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES:

Dr Omar S Ahmed

Dr Omar S Ahmed is an Egyptian registered pharmacist and Teaching Associate at both the University of Bordeaux in France and Misr University for Science and Technology (MUST) in Egypt. He completed his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree in Egypt from MUST University in 2009 followed by a Master (M1) Degree in Analytical Chemistry from Cairo University. He was awarded the prestigious Montpellier Scholarship to pursue his PhD at the Institute of Biomolecules Max Mousseron (IBMM)/University of Montpellier, France. His PhD research project focused on developing a capillary electrophoresis (CE) methodology for the therapeutic drug monitoring of patient treated by chemotherapy: application to Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors (TKIs). In 2019, he obtained a post-doctoral position in the Department of Bioactive Lipid Synthesis (SLB), at the Institute of Biomolecules Max Mousseron (IBMM)/ University of Montpellier, working on the development of a molecular network using low resolution MRM (LC-MS/MS) mode of biomarker derived from poly unsaturated fatty acids. In 2020, Omar joined the School of Pharmacy at Bordeaux University, as a Research and Teaching Associate, focusing on the quality control and analysis of molecules with biological interest originating from natural source.

Omar's research focuses on developing sensitive analytical methodologies based on electrophoresis and chromatography for quantifying drugs and biologics in a variety of matrices.

He has focused his research on three main application areas:
therapeutic drug monitoring and clinical diagnosis;
quantification of biomarkers within natural source;
and
molecular networking of LC-MS data.

 

Dr Caroline Rouger

Dr Caroline Rouger obtained her undergraduate degree in Pharmacy from the University of Angers and obtained her MSc degree in the Chemistry of Natural Products from the University of Paris-Sud, France. Caroline's PhD research focused on chemistry and anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activities of prenylated polyphenols under the supervision of Prof. Pascal Richomme and Dr Séverine Derbré at the University of Angers in 2015. She spent one year at the University of Limoges as a Research and Teaching Assistant before moving to GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany, where she conducted research activities in marine natural product chemistry as well as project management in marine biotechnology. Since 2018, Caroline has been Assistant Professor at the University of Bordeaux, France.

Caroline's current research explores grapevine metabolomics, with a focus on the characterisation of bioactive polyphenols and in particular, stilbenes.
